I see a lot of individual feature requests but no threads with compilations of favorites. I've been using Cacti and thold for about 5 years now, and as an IP Network Manager of a telephone company these are requests I've come up with from past experience. Cacti is awesome for historical graphing/trending, and with a little work it could be 1 piece of software for all monitoring needs.
I would like to see these features. I'll update my post as I think of things that would help. Or if any of you post replies, I may compile the most common request into this OP.
1.) Dependencies
2.) Downed devices show in thold tab
3.) Email alert triggers as html and text at the same time to different addresses.
1.) Dependencies - Ability to configure devices that depend on a parent device. If the parent device goes down, alerts for child devices are suppressed. For example a switch (Parent) that is connected to CPE equipment (Child). If the switch goes down, you 1.) only get an alert for the downed switch, or 2.) The alerts somehow make the critical device that's down obvious (i.e. summarizing). In the thold tab, all devices should show down with the parent on top a different color. Or in a collapsible tree or similar.
2.) Downed devices show in thold tab - I understand thold is all about thresholds, but it does have downed device detection built-in. In my mind this should show up in the thold tab as a downed device, just like a triggered threshold does. So basically, downed device detection is a built-in threshold.
3.) Email alert triggers as html and text at the same time to different addresses - For example, I want to send html alerts to noc@mydomain.com and for the same alert, send a text only alert to 5555551234@vtest.com (Verizon email to text). With different configurable email subject and bodies would be great.
This is what I thought of off the top of my head. I'll add more as they come to mind.
