Re: Hosted Cacti Solution
Do you have any special reuqirements for this ?
E.g. hosted = your devices are all reachable via internet or via VPN ? What kind of devices ?
internet/public hosting, or internally and managed ?

all i would require is to log in and see the traffic graphs. i used to have this is a freind but he turned the cacti off so im without a solution now i am just a home user who likes to see what traffic is going over both switches at 2 locations

Honestly, I think that even for a home user as you consider yourself to be, installing Cacti would be rather straightforward.
Try going through the installation guides http://www.cacti.net/documentation.php
If all you have is really those 2 devices, you could have Cacti up and running and monitoring them both very quickly.

but why keep a PC 24/7 open to run a simple task like that when you can run it remotely ?victorantunes wrote:Honestly, I think that even for a home user as you consider yourself to be, installing Cacti would be rather straightforward.

Re: Hosted Cacti Solution
What would you be willing to pay ?
The issue here is that it's kindof hard to find a free webhosting services that includes PHP, MySQL and Cron as well as no firewall restrictions and the ability to install software ( e.g. rrdtool, spine ... )

I'm running my Cacti on a free ubuntu instance in Amazon cloud. Works like a charm, you can control firewall, install anything you like. Really neat!

Re: Hosted Cacti Solution
Jumpbox has a really nice appliance that you can run in a VMware Player. I downloaded it and I am currently running it now. They give you a free trial for about 30 days and then it switches to pay, but you can just cancel once you have your download of the Jumpbox. After you get it up and running it's a self contained install and its pretty nice. It's so nice in fact, I supported them for about 3 months with a paid account as I feel they deserve some money for the effort they put into it. The appliance comes in an OVF format and is very easy to configure out of the box. The appliance is a trimmed down version of Ubuntu 10.04 and as far as I can tell, they keep their Cacti appliance up to date with the latest code at the time of downloading.
