Hi together,
as you know you can only set one IP-address (Hostname) when you create a new device in CACTI.
This works fine for most of network devices but I have a very special case.
On Cisco routers you can configure a virtual IP-address (loopback IP) that can be used for monitoring/statistic purposes. It does not matter via which interface-ip-address the router is polled.
Now the problem:
Cisco ASAs do not give you that nice possibility. They do not plan to implement it. I asked a few times. This means that Cisco firewalls can only be polled via an interface-ip-address.
In my network I have ASAs in place. These devices are normally polled via one interface-ip-address. The problem is that if that interface is "down" the ASA is still reachable and pingable but via a different interface-ip-address. CACTI still tries to poll the old "down" interface-ip but without success. This means that I need to change the CACTI configuration manually. Because failing over to the second ip-address I mentioned is a fallback mechanism that happens automatically I also would like that CACI uses the second IP-address for polling in the case the first one is not reachable for some polling intevalls.
It would be great to have the possibility in CACI to add backup-ip-addresses. Two or more ... Further more it would be great if it would be possible to set the trigger when the other stanby-ip-addresses are used (e.g. primary IP can not be reached for some polling intervalls).
Please let me know what you think.
