rrdclean not cleaning.... sometimes

Post by GlueGuy »

I was cleaning up a bunch of RRDs. I had about 100 of them, and wanted to clean a few at a time (based on dates).

The first batch, and couple others worked, but now it's not doing anything. Further, there is nothing in the cacti log to even indicate that it started. Sample from the log:
12/30/2012 09:09:29 AM - RRDCLEAN: Poller[0] RRDClean has finished 4 items
12/30/2012 09:09:29 AM - RRDCLEAN: Poller[0] Deleted: d**_k****_jitter_5691.rrd
12/30/2012 09:09:29 AM - RRDCLEAN: Poller[0] Deleted: d**_k****_dbm_5692.rrd
12/30/2012 09:09:29 AM - RRDCLEAN: Poller[0] Deleted: j***_m*****_jitter_5345.rrd
12/30/2012 09:09:29 AM - RRDCLEAN: Poller[0] Deleted: j***_m*****_dbm_5346.rrd
12/30/2012 09:09:29 AM - RRDCLEAN: Poller[0] RRDClean is now running on 4 items
12/30/2012 08:54:29 AM - RRDCLEAN: Poller[0] RRDClean has finished 84 items
Now I can select any number of RRDs, select [Delete] and nothing happens.

I read an older thread from back in 2011 with a similar issue, and that appeared to be resolved by getting rid of a custom-built PHP. I've got box-stock PHP from yum, so I don't think that's an issue.
php --version
PHP 5.1.6 (cli) (built: Jun 27 2012 12:21:13)
Copyright (c) 1997-2006 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.1.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2006 Zend Technologies
This is using rrdclean 0.41.

Why would this work "sometimes" and not others?

Please verify, that the tables `plugin_rrdclean_action` and `plugin_rrdclean` are in place and not damaged. The first table should get filled when you select items to delete.
When running in debug mode, you should see messages like
01/01/2013 08:25:02 PM - POLLER: Poller[0] DEBUG: About to Spawn a Remote Process [CMD: /bin/php, ARGS: -q /var/www/html/cacti/plugins/rrdclean/rrdmove.php]
every 5 minutes.
