using cacti for other purposes

Post by dm07 »

Hi,
Can I use cacti for some other purpose?
I want to use it for capturing data from fence sensor which sends bulk of data to ftp. Then using some script I want to get data to rrd db.
Is it possible?
I wonder if I can add multiple records at one for example 1000 records to rrd at once using script???
If you know how please point me the direction what to read or some ideas.

I m embedded engineer from wild siberia developping some elctronic stuff.

You can externally update rrd files (see 1st link of my sig, way down in the rrdtool chaper).
You will have to write your own script to put the data into that rrd file, then
R.
