New with CACTI...some confusions
Hi everyone,
Thank you for your help in advance. I am new to CACTI...and hope you can help.
First... I download cacti-0.8.8a for Windows. It is a zip file... so I unzipped it and follow some instructions to set it up on my 2008 IIS... so I failed.
Then I found out I might download a right file? So I found another cacti-0.8.8a... which is a exe file with "green icon". So I wiped out my 2008 and install XP. And tried to install it. It looks cool installed everything I Need...but I may be wrong? I tried to follow the instruction (maybe I look into a wrong place?)... I tried to run Mysql but it only have client command.... And now I really do not know what to do...
May I ask...if I want to start it fresh...which file should I use for the cacti? if I tried to install it on windows 2003 or xp...which instruction is the right one for me to use?
Thank you very much for your help.
Bob

Did you follow the installation guide in http://docs.cacti.net/ ?ultrabobson wrote:First... I download cacti-0.8.8a for Windows. It is a zip file... so I unzipped it and follow some instructions to set it up on my 2008 IIS... so I failed.
This installer basically does everything from the installation guide for all the required components. only need to follow the post-installation instructions then.ultrabobson wrote:Then I found out I might download a right file? Up to you which method you want to use to get cacti installed and what works best for your environment.

Hi BSOD2600,
I just installed WinXP and installed the ezCacti you mentioned. Now I did follow the post installtion thing and everything seems to be fine... I also review the log seems no error on MySql, cacti..etc. But when I try to access http://localhost or http://serverip, I will be able to see only blank page.... I did turn off the firewall on the XP. What did I miss?
Thank you for your help.

ezcacti? That's Linux.
Rebooted the server since the install?
Does a phpinfo page work?

Mine is on a XP.... should I install it on Linux? I could see it says it works. But if I go to the login page http:/localhost/cacti...it went blank.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Failing to answer questions asked makes troubleshooting very difficult.
If you're more comfortable with Linux, then go ahead and use that.
Rebooted the server yet since install?
What web server are you using?

Hi... I am sorry if I did not answer all your questions...
I did reboot couple of times the result is the same. I could see php info and "It works".
I think the package will help to install Apache for me? Or.... I think zip has all the packages I need?
I am not very good at linux. May I ask if I can use Linux gui to install the package?
Thank you.

Re: New with CACTI...some confusions
You're going about this entire process backwards. If you started out with Windows 2008, why did you wipe it for XP? You do realize XP makes a terrible server OS along with it soon to be unsupported by Microsoft, right?
Yes, the cacti installer package will configure IIS or Apache for you. The zip package does no installation -- you perform all the steps.
I do not use linux, so no idea bout the process. read through the documentation?
