Difference between Cacti and Realtime/Actual

Post by leighharrison »

Afternoon All,

I've got an issue where Cacti isn't showing me the actual results correctly. By this I mean that I've got a graph from Cacti that shows a current interface throughput of around 90Mb out and 20Mb in (shown below in the two graph picture). I've got the real-time plugin and when I select this, it shows the traffic having been at a good 150-200Mb inbound for the previous hour with around 50-90Mb out (also shown below in the 1 graph picture).

I hopped on the node that this interface is actually on and had a look at that and he was showing 200Mb in and 60Mb in (snippet shown below)

Any thoughts on why my Daily graph isn't showing the throughput even though I was hitting a good 150-200Mb for an hour or so?

As an update to this, I've just had another good look and the Daily graph seems to be around 100Mb less than the realtime graph.

When our users are logging on in the morning, you can see the traffic ramp up, then when it hit's 100Mb, the traffic drops to nothing and then keeps going up. This would explain why we're seeing less throughput on the Daily graph than we are on the realtime graph.

Any thoughts on why this would be??

On a little bit more investigation, I've noticed that this is happening on all of my links that are running more than 100Mb. I've got another circuit that is currently drawing 236Mb inbound and it's stating on the Daily graph there is 36Mb and on both the realtime and the router itself, is showing 236Mb.

I appears that my issue is that my daily graphs are unable to show me more then 100Mb thoughput. I've checked the Interface speeds under the devices and they all read correctly. I've altered the maximum value of the data sources from the ifSpeed to U to see if that clears it.
