How to calculate Traffic Total in Total out

I'm not sure how the Total In and Out values calculated as below:

1 Graph templete uses two Data Templetes. Ferst Data templete uses counter data source type (it calculates difference in traffic at some period of time). And second templete uses gauge data soure type.
Graph takes load from counter data and traffic from gauge data.
