Cacti Notifications

Post by sphillips237 »

Greetings,

I have Cacti installed and approximately 20 nodes declared. The nodes defined consist of servers and switches. On that note, I have noticed I am not receiving notifications when the status of a device changes.

I have all the necessary plugins and I can send a test email to my email account via pressing the test link in the top left hand corner.

Can someone tell me why I am not receiving my notifications upon a device status change?

Thanks

This seems to be plugin related, moving.
Please show the list of installed plugins and specific "Settings" for those which are "notification" related

Greetings,

The plugin list consists of:

Monitor, Settings, Mobile, Weathermap, Realtime and Thold... All of the mentioned plugins have a status of Active..

In regards to specific "Settings", I think you are referring too the Host UP/Down Settings. On that note, the Failure Count = 1 and the Recovery Count = 3. The poller interval is declared to 15 seconds (Step = 15 and Heartbeat = 30) ,the Cron Interval is set to 1 minute and the windows scheduler is declared to 1 minute as well.

All hosts have a check in the monitor box!!!

Regards,

Settings -> Poller -> Host Up/Down primarily governs the value for host status on the host list screen.
Stock cacti does not perform any mailing in case this status changes. As you're complaining about that very mail, we have to search the plugins for an error condition. I suppose, that THOLD is the one of your plugins that is related. So we need to know about the Settings -> THOLD -> Default Alerting Options as well

After reading your message, I gathered the device's Status does not initiate any email alerts. Therefore, it is safe to assume all alerts are based off of threshold declarations. If so, I do not have any thresholds declared which could be one of my missing links. In addition, are you suggesting I create a threshold that will send an email when the devices' status change from UP to DOWN and reverse...

Default Alerting Options are:
Weekend Exemptions = Unchecked
Default Trigger Count = 2
Re-alerting = 4
Syslog Support = Unchecked
Syslog Level = Warning
Syslog Facility = User

My bad. I'm not an expert on downed host emails. I was _assuming_ that they will be triggered by THOLD, but from your answer I have to deduce that this is not the case. And you don't use MANAGE, do you?

Yes, it is. To be honest, I was able to get those up/down notifications by accident yesterday. And it tells me that it is THOLD related (mailer name refers to THOLD). So I suppose we should stick to that part.
So I will move this topic to THOLD

Hey, that was NOT my recommendation! I only _asked_ whether this plugin is installed, as it may have caused that issue.
I neither recommend nor deny the use of manage, but this is NOT related to this problem

The manage plugin is present on my machine.

The following plugins are active
Realtime
Weathermap
Thold
Manage

Are you saying there is a conflict between thold and manage plugin?
