Cacti Installiation With PIA
Hello,
I see that now there are pre-patched files that include the PIA, and I was wondering if I could get a little direction as to how to go about this.
So I have a box running Ubuntu 11.10 server with a working version of Cacti V0.8.7g. I was now wondering how I would install the plugin architecture.
I have tried following the instructions on the wiki, but after that Cacti would not load any longer.
I have no data in Cacti that I need and could reformat the box if necessary.
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Cacti Installiation With PIA
I think that I have figured it out.
My first issue is I was using 0.8.7i and I could not figure out how to upgrade that with the plugin architecture, but once I started using 0.8.7g I was able to use the .diff file to install PIA and got it up and running.
I still would like to know how to do it if i have a running installation of 0.8.7i then install PIA, but it is not a pressing issue.
Thanks,
Dan

We have some upgrade issues when starting non-PIA and then uopgrading to 087i+PIA. This will be solved with next release

Yeah I seemed to have experienced that.
What is the reason for not including a fully functional PIA when installing the package using the package manager?
Thanks for all the help and your great work!

Re: Cacti Installiation With PIA
Packaging is done by distro maintainers, no by us.
And as PIA was not part of core code yet, the distros chose not to include it into their packages.
This will change with next release

Very cool! Very excited for the next release!
I have a suggestion, I do not know the complexities with it or anything just think it might be a nice addition.
I think that it would be very nice if plugins followed some sort of standardization, so on the plugin page you could upload a tar and then press install or something along those lines that rather than having to do it all in bash. I am not saying the bash way is bad, it works perfectly fine, just for simplicity sake it would be nice not to have to.
I am not complaining at all, I know the hard work all of you have put into this project, and for that I thank you and really appreciate it, just a suggestion.
Is there an ETA for the next release?
Thanks for all your hard work.

In fact, we share your position. It's simply a matter of time to develop that feature; and, to be honest, THAt time has not come yet.dannyn wrote:Very cool! Very excited for the next release!

Sure, there is. And sure, we again did not meet that. Some tests with latest PHP are still ahead. Is there an ETA for the next release?

You may test current SVN code. This _should_ more or less be what we will distribute next. And we LOVE feedback
