Hi,
I'm in the process of upgrading my installations of Threshold plugin from 0.4.1 to 0.4.9-3.
It seems that the way notifications are handled has changed once again (:
If I leave the Disable Legacy Notifications setting unset, the templates/thresholds can have the notification email defined through three different settings:
Disabling legacy notifications disables the Notify Accounts and Alert Email fields, leaving only the notification lists.
What are the plans for future versions of the plugin? Will the two additional fields eventually be phased out, and we should all disable legacy notifications in order to prepare?
There is also a discrepancy between the handling of a "global notification list" for host and threshold notifications. Host notifications use the email set in the global Dead Host Notifications Email setting ('alert_email'), while for thresholds, the global list (well, the default at least) means the notification list with the ID of 1.
A better solution would perhaps be to automatically create a Global notification list (id=1) upon installation, as a replacement for the alert_email field. This would ensure that the global list receives all messages (host notifications and threshold breaches) by default, and would be managed through one interface.

Re: Threshold notification lists
Yes, I agree that the global lists should be handled differently, I will see what I can come up with. Personally I don't like the current notification lists, there are just too many quirky things about it. The old way of doing it will definitely be phased out though, we just may have to tweak Notification Lists a good bit before it becomes something I can live with.

Re: Threshold notification lists
I'll see if my team comes up with any useful suggestions, when they'll have some time to play around with it.
I am currently leaning towards a solution with combining the notification lists with a multiple-choice select box. Without this, the lists could get messy real quick (= lots of duplication), if you want to play around with notifying specific groups of people, since the intersections may not always be the same.
