Cacti will not work on W2k3
Greeting Cacti Users,
I must admit... I downloaded Cacti installer (Cacti-0.8.7e_1.94.exe) and installed it onto a windows 2003 platform. After installing the executable and applying the Cacti Post-Install instructions, I was unable to access the index.php page.
IIS 6 Default Site home directory is pointing to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\cacti. Therefore; I launch my browser and typed in http:\\localhost and recieve a message Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage..
It appears php is not processing the pages accordingly; but, I have no earthly idea on how to fix the issue..
I even when to FASTcgi site for assistance and no luck there as well..
Many Thanks,

Hmm, looks like I need to remove the old installers.
Try the latest Cacti 0.8.7i installer and report back your findings.

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
Ok can you answer this... I notice on the net there is two sets of instructions on how to install Cacti on a Windows environment. From the links below can you tell me which link is correct?
http://bsod2600.home.comcast.net/~bsod2 ... stallation
http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... ndows.html
I will make another stab at installing cacti manually!!!
Thanks

Either the first link or http://docs.cacti.net/manual:087:1_inst ... er_windows will work. The cacti.net one is majorly outdated.

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
Good Morning,
I reviewed the recommended cacti site and I have also downloaded the required software as well. If you don't mind, can you tell me if I downloaded the correct software? The items I downloaded is listed below
cacti-0.8.7i-PIA-3.1.zip
cacti-spine-0.87i.zip
mysql-5.0.92.zip
net-snmp-5.5.1-1.x86.exe
php-5.2.17-nts-Win32-VC6-x86.msi (Non-Threaded)
rrdtool-1.2.13-cygwin-1.5.19.zip
setup.exe Cygwin
One more thing; while installing php, I selected IIS FastCGI and was immediately prompt to download FastCGI. Which I did, is this correct??? After installing php and FastCGI, I notice I did not have a extras directory within c:\php. I created a extras directory, within the extras directory; I also created a mibs directory and file call .index within the mibs directory... Can you tell me if that is correct as well???
Thanks

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
I'd recommend rrdtool 1.2.30 win32 build instead of cygwin. No need for spine unless you've exceeded the limitations of cmd.php poller. Yes, fastcgi is required for the newer php versions.
It really sounds like you should give the latest Windows installer a try...

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
Hello,
I finally got Cacti to work by performing the manual install. I am so proud of my efforts!!! With that being said, I was unable to login via the main page.
How do I find out what my username and password is or how can I change this???
thanks

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
Yes, admin\admin allow me access. I have another question.
I added my machine and I notice my machine has a status of UNKNOWN. I know that is incorrect!!! I assume I have granted some incorrect permission and the user responsible for running poller.php or cmd.php is not declared correctly within the windows scheduler.
By the way, I declared another user to run either poller.php or cmd.php. Should this user have admin rights over the machine or just have permissions over certain directories???
Many Thanks

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
Fix the cacti poller scheduled task so the devices will be polled and statuses updated.
Security considerations are talked about in the installation guide and general IT administration practices.

Ok you say fix the cacti poller (poller.php) so that the devices will be polled and the device will be update. With that being said, I assume I have to add the poller.php to Windows Scheduler, which I have perform.
However, we the poller runs the script is displayed and then freezes. I have to manual close the script...
By any chance do you have an IM account??
Thanks

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
Yes, the poller.php needs to be added to a scheduled task. the installation guide has instructions on the proper commands required.
what script is displayed?

Re: Cacti will not work on W2k3
Thanks for you help with getting the poller properly configured. I have another issue. I added three windows based items to cacti. I notice the local machine has a status of UP and the In-State has the uptime posted. However, the other two devices have a status of UNKNOWN and the In-State has a hyphen.
I compared the declarations to the settings of the local host and I can guarantee that the settings of the problematic devices are identical to the local machine!!!
One more thing, the three devices are not configured to graph any resources. I will add the graphing later..
Regards

This occurs when cacti has nothing to poll for the device.sphillips237 wrote:However, the other two devices have a status of UNKNOWN and the In-State has a hyphen
