cacti stops polling interfaces after 0.8.1 to 0.8.5a upgrade

Post by gregpend »

I just upgraded my cacti from 0.8.1 to to 0.8.5a and I have 2 problems that may be related:

1. Cacti stops polling interfaces: I poll both linux boxes, firewalls, and cisco routers. After the upgrade cmd.php stops polling all interfaces and only polls cpu! All the data sources are still there and valid as far as I can tell.

2. When I try to create graphs I get an "Error in data query" message and it can't poll interfaces. My net-snmp path is correct and I can manually run snmpget.

I have no data collection right now, any help is appreciated

So if you can somehow merge the two of them.... then magically all your problems will be resolved. Either that, or you'll both end up with no cpu AND no interfaces :-(

What does the copy of your cmd.php output look like? Is it just getting U's, or is it not even polling the devices?

It doesn't even attempt to poll them.

OK, I solved the issue, very strange it was. The xml path in data-queries for SNMP - Interface Statistics was not set to <cacti-path> /blah/blah, it was set to a directory that has never existed on the machine! Is it possible that the new version has this directory hard-coded?

That solved the SNMP error issue but my graphs were still not updating. I tried clearing poller cache and that sorted it out for most, but I still had to delete some devices, re-create them, then go to data-sources and manually point them back to their old RRD files. A major pain in the ass. I really regret upgrading now!

hmm..
my cmd.php shows many things, but some of them are similar to this:
snmp: 172.16.0.1:161, dsname: 5min_cpu, oid: , value:
while others look like this (which is ok):
snmp: 172.16.0.1:161, dsname: traffic_out, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.24, value: 1313969052

the OID is not presented. this happened to me once when i configured in a data input method the special type code of OID as "oid" instead of "snmp_oid", but i checked and this is not the case now.
also, all paths seem to be ok... still the rrds are getting updated (touched by the cmd.php anyway), but the value in them is NaN.

my poller cache shows:
Data Source: SNMP - Alex - Gw - 5 Minute CPU
RRD: /var/www/htdocs/cacti-0.8.5a/rra/snmp_alex_gw_5min_cpu_42.rrd
Action: 0, OID: (Host: 172.16.0.1, Community: mycom)

any idea?
