updating ifSpeed automatically

Post by robertutdallas »

First of all, I'm sorry if this is a simple stupid question. I've been looking on-line for methods to automatically update the ifSpeed values for data-sources. The two plug-ins I've looked at (without installing) are fix64bit and discovery.

Should I go in the direction of a plug-in, or am I overlooking a built-in feature?

Thank you for your time.

After re-indexing with poller_reindex_hosts.php, I noticed query_ifSpeed appeared to be updated. However the "Maximum Value" did not increase. Will this cause a problem?

I checked to see ifSpeed updated by putting |query_ifSpeed| in the title of the data-source. However, the graphs still looked messed up for these graphs.

Just a span port, but a few other graphs corresponding to ports that were changed from 100Mbit to 1Gbit since initially discovery.

This would appear to be a 32bit vs. 64bit counter issue. If you have a max value set to ifSpeed, and they are 64bit counters, you have made a mistake. You should reverse that.

Thank you TheWitness.

Is this to say I don't need a max value for 64bit counters?

Does it make a difference that when adding devices via the CLI tools I'm using ifType as my index rather than ifSpeed?

FWIW, I always set up with 64bit counters. The places I'm seeing this issue is on a port that was disabled/not-in-use at the time of the original set up and was enabled/put-in-use afterwards. I'll setup a test case scenario so I can provide more detail.
