[solved] SNMP Error

Hi , after i installed cacti i am unable to add a device without having an SNMP Error in red at the top left when i am saving the device.

Operating System: Windows 7 (32-bit)
Webserver: IIS 7
Cacti: 0.8.7g
Spine:0.8.7g
MySQL:5.1.50
PHP:5.2.14
RRDTool (Cygwin or Win32 version):1.2.30

It seems that i am unable to get an SNMP response from Getif.
I am using the windows installer that Bsod2006 created.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve the snmp error?

EDIT: Does perl have to be installed for snmp to run?

This means the windows snmp agent has not been installed, configured, or a firewall is blocking the snmp data.

Sorry i am a newbie to SNMP , i've used your installer and SNMP is installed in C:/net-snmp.
According to the Read-me file , i would need to download Win32 REGEX and install perl am i right?
Where would i type the commands ppm install NetSNMP.ppd?

Perl is not needed. Exactly what are you trying to monitor? A Windows machine? And what OS? If it's a windows server or XP Pro, etc. follow this guide:

All you need to do is install the component and configure a community string. Don't worry about setting up traps, it's not needed.

Hi i am trying to monitor a windows server and maybe a linux server later on. How would i configure the community string? As i cant seem to find what is stated in the guide which says
check boxes next to the services that are provided by your computer.
And when i run the smpdconf file it tells me to install perl.

EDIT: Btw i am running on win 7 32 bit

Install the component, open services, right-click the SNMP Service and click properties. It's under the security tab:

I have done the above but i am still getting a no SNMP Response from my localhost which is 192.168.1.76

EDIT2: I've solved it. To anyone out there looking for the solution you just have to create a snmpd.conf at C:\net-snmp\etc\snmp with

I've never had to install snmpd.conf, I've always used Windows SNMP service. I'm glad you got it working though.

One note to someone else that wants to use the Windows SNMP service is that "localhost" should always resolve to 127.0.0.1 which is "itself". So by default the Windows SNMP service only allows SNMP packets from itself. If the cacti install is on a different server then you'll need to click "add" to accept SNMP packets from the cacti server. Simply enter the cacti server main IP or the full dns name. It's always worked for me and I've setup many windows machines for monitoring.

I am having the same issues. I actually have one cacti server installed and with that I have no issues. The new cacti server however keeps giving me snmp error even after I added new cacti ip on the snmp accept list. I have turned off all the firewall to make sure its not on that side. The only device that shows up is the new cacti server localhost ( even than I dont see all the data queries for win services). As of right now I just have basic cacti core installed running php for now not spine. New Cacti is installed on windows 2003 x32, on iis 6 and fast cgi. I am a newbie trying to read about information with no luck. Any help would be highly appreciated.
