Adding Servers with ICMP Ping and SNMP

Post by vettyp »

I am currently in the process of setting up a fresh install of cacti on a Centos 5.5 box. I have gotten eveything to work correctly except for adding a windows server with SNMP and ICMP Ping. I have an older cacti installation that is monitoring this server just fine and I know my SNMP community string is set up correctly.

Whenever I try to add the server I get the following error

SNMP Information
SNMP error

Ping Results
ICMP Ping timed out

I have poller.php to be run by root under crontab. I am thinking it is some sort of permissions issue that I happened to look over. Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

I was able to get SNMP working with using the IP address of the server instead of the FQDN. ICMP however still does not work. Any ideas?

I finally figured out the issue with ICMP ping timing out on CentOS 5.6 . SELinux was enabled by default and blocking all requests from cacti to use ICMP ping. I disabled SELinux and ICMP ping started working like a charm. I hope this helps somebody else as I have been trying to figure this out for days.
