Howto do Plugins upgrade during 87e to 87g upgrade?

I'm tryuing to upgrade from version 087e to g.
PA on the old system is 2.6, new system is 2.8.
The new system has PHP 5.3.x so the g version is required.

I've been able to successfully upgrade without the plugins but I'm having trouble getting plugins upgraded.
I have settings, monitor, flowview, realtime, thold. Of these only thold appears to update normally. Doesn't seem to matter whether I put them in globals.php or not. IE the plugins management screen only shows thold.

My upgrade process includes a complete dump from the original db to an new db so the plugin tables are carried over. Then I upgrade cacti from e to g.
When the plugins failed to upgrade normally during the first test I upgraded all the plugin scripts to the latest available versions. This enabled thold which had initial failed. The others don't seem to register in the system.

Is there a better way to upgrade cacti with plugins when upgrading the core cacti version?
