Discovery plugin question

Post by Ed_Howard »

Hello everyone,

I am a cacti newbie and I have just installed Version 0.8.7g and the latest discovery plugin. I am very impressed with the results. I had one quick question. When a new device is discovered and the creation criteria is met a new device is created, however the only thing that I noticed is that the device name is truncated if the SNMP name contains any blank spaces. For instance if the SNMP name is "Testing for Cacti" the Device name created would be "Testing" and the "for Cacti" would be dropped. Is there a way to incorporate the entire SNMP name field? I would hate to have to manually reconfigure all the devices with under scores. Thanks for all the help and if there is anything else you need from me please let me know.

The device name shall not have any spaces or special characters.

That is why there is a description field.

The device name shall be a proper host name or FQDN.

Thank you for the reply,

I realize that is how it is supposed to be but sometimes reality and standards don't match. I was just trying to save my self many hours of work. Thanks again for the quick reply. :D
