SNMP Error

Post by dsharma »

Hi,
i installed the cacti 0.8.7g on my windows xp machine, But iam getting SNMP error while creating device. I checked almost all the cacti forums but the problem persists. My SNMP version is 5.5.0-1. My php.ini output is

[PHP Modules]
bcmath
calendar
com_dotnet
ctype
date
dom
filter
ftp
hash
iconv
json
libxml
mysql
odbc
pcre
Reflection
session
SimpleXML
snmp
sockets
SPL
standard
tokenizer
wddx
xml
xmlreader
xmlwriter
zlib

[Zend Modules]

Contents of snmp.conf are:

mibdirs C:/Net-SNMP/share/snmp/mibs
persistentDir C:/Net-SNMP/snmp/persist
tempFilePattern C:/Net-SNMP/temp/snmpdXXXXXX

Also the location C:/Net-SNMP/share/snmp/mibs exists and mibs is not empty.
My PHP version is 5.2.14
My enviornment variable settings are:

MIBDIRS->C:\php\extras\mibs;
path->C:\rrdtool;E:\cygwin\bin;C:\Net-SNMP\bin;
MIBS->ALL;
PHPRC->C:\php;

Also while creating device which snmp version should i use???

Thanks

Your SNMP version will depend on what the device you are polling supports.

Have you tried an snmpwalk on the device:

snmpwalk -c public -v 2c deviceIP

Change public to what your community string is and deviceIP to the IP address of the device.

There is an excellent troubleshooting guide here as well:

snmp error means there is something wrong with the snmp agent on the remote device. Validate it's properly configured and no firewall/acls are blocking the traffic.
