character encoding problem after upgrade to 0.8.7f

Post by cyb »

After an upgrade to cacti-0.8.7f, I have a problem with character encoding in descriptions of my hosts as in the snapshot below.

My cacti db is in latin encoding, but that was never a problem pre-upgrade.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: This happens only to a newly created hosts, also editing existing ones and save result in the same mess.

Likely due to this:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
More specifically the EN portion.

Can you please add the following to your top_header.php and top_graph_header.php and let us know if it resolves the issue.

Code: Select all

	<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" >
I believe that this is browser specific and due to the new "doctype" being the only thing declared relative to i18n, it is reverting to a latin encoding. If we drive the document via the header statement, we will solve the issue.

I think UTF8 is enough of a superset of the latin encoding that is defaulted to resolve this issue.

Sorry, you have to update host.php and data_sources.php. Our German developer tested the changes and they worked fine. So, be assured, the 0.8.7g release will take care of it.
