spine with mysql without safe-threads(solaris OS)

I have to install spine on a solaris system the version of mysql doesn't have the --with-safe-threads flags
is it possible to build spine without this option in mysql? maybe editing the source code to change the libmysql_r ?

compiling installing a new version of mysql is worstest solution because of the amount of databases and tables to migrate,
