Can cacti connect to muliple domains for WMI polling?

Post by damagecontrol »

I am trying to get Cacti to poll two AD domains for WMI information, but I am not sure how to do it. I have just started working with WMI information, so I am not certain how the files should be set up beyond a basic configuration. I believe that the cactiwmi.pw file controls the authentication information (as opposed to the wmi-logins.php file, which I believe is no longer in use), but I am not sure how to specify more than one domain. At present, the file looks like this.

username=domainaccount
password=password
domain=maindomain

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure what script you're talking about...

Anyways, the user who runs the Cacti scheduled task, should be a domain acount. That way, you can get up permissions across servers for it to access WMI info. Otherwise, the scrip(s) you use, will have to set up user account impersonation and have the passwords in plain text, which really isn't secure.

I am not asking about a script; I am referring to the Cacti WMI configuration. Is it necessary to put authentication information in the cactiwmi.pw or wmi-logins.php files? Or is the authentication handled strictly via the WMI settings in the GUI? Also, do you know of a guide for setting up the WMI configuration? I am trying to get a better handle on what each piece of the configuration means.

Thanks for your help.

Once again, not sure what script you're talking about... cacti doesn't come with any wmi scripts. You'd get better support if you posted the question in the thread where you got it from.

As for WMI config, I have some details in my installation guide FAQ section (link in signature).
