Newbie doubt

Post by pc86 »

Hello, I am new in this world and I possibly have a stupid doubt, i was shown MRTG as graphing tool and there was ok, but we found an disadvantage on it. It is shows fine the recent days graphics "every 30 minutes" or "every 5 minutes" but with the old data the range increases to days and for example, i cant see what happened a certain day in a certain hour of a day one year ago.

I read that Cacti stores the data in mysql in order to do the graphs with that. So, my doubt is, Cacti let you see old old days, in a periods, of an hour? for example.

Thanks a lot and sorry for my English.

Cacti does not store it's information in the database, it uses RRDTool, the same way MRTG does (it just looks cooler).

However, both MRTG and Cacti can be adjusted to store as much fine-grained detail as you want. It is only the default setting that is limited.
