3com 5500/4500 ifName

Post by vkl »

Hello,

We have several 3com 5500G & 4500G but each time we had to add a graph, the title is no complete.

Data queries in use: |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName|

Polling of an interface give for Name (IF-MIB): GigabitEthernet1/0/XX

The problem is when the graph is generated, the title is:

Good_Hostname - Traffic - GigabitEthernet

instead of:

Good_Hostname - Traffic - GigabitEthernet/1/0/XX

Any idea would be welcome :)

Thanks,

Please see "Settings -> Visual" and increase the title length.
You may need to use /cli/poller_graphs_reapply_names.php

Perhaps I did not understand the first time. Let's have another try. Please see http://docs.cacti.net/manual:087:3a_adv ... data_query to learn how to change the title template for a data query

Let me show you datas.

First the data query, we can see complete interface name and comments:

Next, we can see that the interface number has disappeared but the comments are always present. So I don't think it is a problem with the length of the title.

I don't understand why the name of the interfaces is cut...

The title is created based on rules defined in the Data Query. That's where I pointed you at. Depending on the rule used, there's a good chance that the interface description you _like_ to see is not the one _used_ by the matching rule.

I have read the link you give me.

All templates for the data query have been remove except one which is: |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName|

In the column ifName I have, for example, GigabitEthernet1/0/1. So I ask a graph for this interface and in the debug message I see: "+ Created graph: swichname - Traffic - GigabitEthernet".

The name of the interface is truncate...

Please see "System Utilities -> View SNMP Cache". Filter for that device. Which values are stored here? The "correct" ifName or the truncated one?

This is which version of cacti, then? I'll try to reproduce issues when creating the title from the snmp cache where cache value looks like yours

That's not all, my bad.
Tweak Settings -> Visual -> Data Queries -> Maximum Field Length
to a value > 20 and retry (reapply suggested names is again recommended)

Great, titles are now complete!

Maximum Field Length was set to 15 characters.

Thanks for your help.
