My default settings for all hosts: 500ms t/o, 10 OIDS/request
On C37 stacks i go with: 2000ms
On C2/C3 (old stuff) i go with: 2000ms, 1 OID/request

My default spine poller settings:

Cron Interval: 1min
Maximum Concurrent Poller Processes: 1
Maximum Threads per Process: 15
Number of PHP Script Servers: 1

1) Increase snmp timeout for host

OR

2) Reduce the number of MAX OID's for the host.

Hello all,

I am having similar issues with SNMP timeouts detected and it means that I am not getting any charts being created / updated.

I have a small amount of machines in my Cacti at the moment, but this will grow quickly once I get all my issues sorted.

My Cacti installation:
Cacti Version - 0.8.7e
Plugin Architecture - 2.5
Poller Type - Cactid v
Server Info - Linux 2.6.27-14-server
Web Server - Apache/2.2.9 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.6-2ubuntu4.3 with Suhosin-Patch
PHP - 5.2.6-2ubuntu4.3
PHP Extensions - zip, xmlwriter, libxml, xml, wddx, tokenizer, sysvshm, sysvsem, sysvmsg, session, SimpleXML, sockets, soap, SPL, shmop, standard, Reflection, posix, mime_magic, mbstring, json, iconv, hash, gettext, ftp, filter, exif, dom, dba, date, ctype, calendar, bz2, bcmath, zlib, pcre, openssl, xmlreader, apache2handler, gd, mysql, mysqli, PDO, pdo_mysql, snmp, xsl
MySQL - 5.0.67-0ubuntu6
RRDTool - 1.2.27
SNMP - 5.4.1
Plugins
  • Global Plugin Settings (settings - v0.5)
    Thresholds (thold - v0.4.1)
    Update Checker (update - v0.4)
PHP Network Managing (PHP Network Managing - v0.6.1)
Create Aggregate Graphs (aggregate - v0.70 Beta 1)
PHP Network Weathermap (weathermap - v0.95b)
    Host Info (hostinfo - v0.2)
I have at least one host that always comes back with the error:

WARNING: SNMP timeout detected [5000 ms], ignoring host 'host.example.com'

I know that this is the same error that has been mentioned in this post before, but I have not been able to fix the problem. The things I have done to attempt to fix this are:

- Reduced the number of OIDs to be fetched from the host to 0
- Increased the timeout of SNMP to 5 seconds
- Run spine against the host in debug mode - this works when just using the one host id but for all hosts I get the above error
- Played about with the settings for my Spine poller to no avail, e.g. the number of threads etc
- I tried an older version of Spine but I got the same error. I am currently using Spine 0.8.7e

I have tested an snmpwalk from the command line of the Cacti server and details do come back. Strangely not all charts are effected, I do get a response for Diskspace and TCP Connection Status but noithing for the others so I know that SNMP is working to some extent.

It also appears that the system does not even wait for 5 seconds, it seems to just immediately decide there is a timeout issue and then skip all the tests.

Thanks for any help in advance, Russell
