Retaining graphs with IP address Change

Post by cacti_is_awesome »

Hi,

I've been using Cacti to graph on few devices in my environment; Now I'm facing a situation where in IP addresses of many devices will change;

Here's the current setup:

We normally put FQDN in "Description" field while adding device in Cacti.
IP address is enterted in "Hostname" filed of Cacti.

If I changed the IP address of the device to new address, is there a way to retain previously generated graphs / polled data and assign it back to the new device?

Thanks & Regards,
Ray

If you simply edit the host and change the IP address, none of your graphs will be lost so long as the IP has changed. If you have nscd installed, I would simply use the FQDN in the hostname field from the beginning.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?

Graph data lives in the associated rrd file(s), which is pointed to in the Data Sources for a device. Changing the IP address of a device in Cacti shouldn't matter, since the device # and associated data source do not change...
