Assuming your permissions are fine (web server has has write access to those directories). The next thing to do is make sure your crontab entry is running correctly. It should look something like:
*/5 * * * * webserveruser /path/to/cmd.php
You could also try running the script manually by executing:
php /path/to/cmd.php
At the command line. For your information, 'cmd.php' is located in cacti's main directory.

Thank you very much for your further investigation. I guess this proves very much that my perl scripts are very Linux-centric in that sense. I used to have a FreeBSD 4.2 box lying around, but I do not anymore. That would be excellent if you would contribute your modified perl scripts. This is one area that cacti could definetely use work in.
