weathermap from multiple cacti servers

Post by totosh »

can weathermap installed on one server gather information from an other cacti server ? (i guess the main problems would be authentication and the timing differences in the polling process)

Timing differences shouldn't be much of a problem - weathermap will pick data up from up to 15 minutes in the past from rrd files.

Can you share files between the two servers? (e.g. CIFS, NFS...)

If not, how were you thinking it should work? Talking to the other database? something else?
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.

i was thinking just using links from the second cacti server on the first cacti+weathermap server in infourl and overlib. i guess it doesn't make sense :-?

eg

INFOURL http://2ndservercacti/graph.php?rra_id= ... ph_id=7626

Oh, you can do that. You would need to be logged in on the other cacti server, as you say (or allow guests to see those graphs).

I thought you meant for TARGETs - that's a bit harder.

yup i might start using target as i really like what colejv did with idiot lights. http://forums.cacti.net/about28766.html, i ll probably share the rra folder on the second folder as you mentionned in the first post.

The only other (fairly) easy alternative I can think of would be to use something like Transporter, so that the last data is in the Mysql database on the other server, and then write a weathermap DS plugin to look at that data. There's an example of that in the lib/datasources/ folder, but you would need to be able to write a little code.
