Advanced Ping: Too many packet losses...

Post by crashergs »

Cacti Users,

I have here a display of what we have on our monitors. Here are some devices that show a large amount of packet loss, we are skeptical at its results.

What are the best values for the templates to receive an optimal result? We have the settings below.

The number of times to ping the host: 20
Ping protocol to use. Either ICMP (default), TCP, or UDP: ICMP
Port to ping. Applies only to TCP and UDP protocols: 80

So you ping every single host 2000 times every polling cycle(that generates a lot of ICMP traffic, and it also not very clever to do performancewise)?

Why are you are sceptical at the results?

There is a resolved bug on 0.8.7c regarding the behavior of ping-monitored hosts... have a look on the release notes, probably upgrading to 0.8.7c solves your problem.
