Use of term "octets" in Data Input Get Data (SNMP)

Post by gwynnebaer »

Can anyone confirm that the term "octet" is just a placeholder for whatever data that we are collecting over snmp?

My question stems from some wierd data that I have seen from Network Appliance machines that report data throughput in KBytes, not in bytes or bits. I looked all over for hidden code that might apply a multiplier to this data, but didn't see anything.

I just want to confirm that whatever data I put in the "octets" field will remain unmodified.

If so, maybe I can suggest a name change on this field to "data" or something generic?

Thanks!
