syslog plugin not show host

Post by candylx »

Hello:
I used cacti0.87b
Syslog 0.5.2
OS WIN2003

Is there a way to associate device names with the IPs displayed in the Host Selection box of the Syslog plugin?

This issue is resolved?

Depends on which software you are using for the collection of the logs. If it's Kiwi, there is a setting in the application itself that allows you to resolve DNS names against IP Addresses.
Cacti Version 0.8.8b
Cacti OS Ubuntu LTS
RRDTool Version RRDTool 1.4.7
Poller Information
Type SPINE 0.8.8b

Ah, I see now in the screenshots. If you're running Windows, then I'd recommend KIWI Sylog Daemon, as it's free (although we use the pro version). You'll either need to have KIWI log directly to a database, or use the SYSLOGD plugin (pepj) to pipe information from KIWI into SYSLOG.

I use this, and it works very well.

There is a wealth of knowledge in the forums on the subject of SYSLOG.

Can you give some extra detail on how you did it???
I also have this problem, Cacti on a Windows machine and Kiwi on a separate Windows machine.

Install a MySQL ODBC driver on the Kiwi box, and create a ODBC connection to the mysql database for the syslog plugin.
Then setup Kiwi so that it (also) logs to syslog plugins(syslog_incoming) table(you'll have to buy it to use this feature, but the demo version works for 30 days).
It's pretty simple, and works great. See the screenshots for some more information.
