Adding a switch status - unknown

Post by zippi245 »

I have an issue with my recently rebuilt cacti server.

When I add a cisco router in and set the SNMP ping test it completes successfully and traffic is successfully graphed.

I add a HP procurve switch and I've verified the SNMP details are correct by using the SNMP tester. It looks like it's communicating with the switch but the status of device up / device down still shows as unknown.

I've tried amending the settings for the ping to be SNMP only but this doesn't work and the device still shows as unknown. I've turned the logging level up but I'm not seeing any errors.

Do I need to get Ping working on the unit via TCP? I dont think this will work as present as it needs to be run with root privelages. If this is the case can anyone advise how I can get round this?

If you are using cmd.php, you must create at least 1 graph before it will be pinged. If using spine, it will be pinged always.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
