Automatic graph generation?

Post by after310 »

Hello! I'm French (lol, sorry for my english) and I'm new on the forum.

I write this message because I have a small problem...
I found many posts by users who haves problems to create graph; Me it is to delete them!

I would like to monitor a switch interface. For that, I use a "Data Query" on my device, and the "Interface Traffic" graph template.
The interface that I want to monitor is OK, the graph generated is OK.

Problem, few minuts later, all interfaces on my switch are graphed, I understand neither why nor how to delete them finally, because when i delete it, graphs are automatically re-generated

Someone can help me? :D

Well, how are you deleting them? It's hard to say what you are doing wrong, when you don't describe WHAT you are doing! :-)
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Hi!
Cool, someone answer me 8)

To begin, I uses CactiEZ.

A device already exist (Nortel Networks Baystack 460 and a Passport 8600), and a "data query" is attached to it.
The data query (SNMP - Interface Statistics) collects the list of the interfaces of the switch and the administrative status of the interface.
The feature is OK, i can see the elements finded by SNMP.

Then, i click on the device in the device part of the menu (on the left).
I click on the device that I want to create graphs, and "Create Graphs for this Host".
I tick the checkbox on the line that i want to create graph, I select the type of graph (In/Out Bits) and to finish, I save with "create" button.

The graph that I want is now created, and few minuts later, all interfaces (administratively UP) are graphed (with the "In/Out Bits" type of graph).

To delete the graphs, I use "graph management" and i also delete the .RRD files in RRA folder on my server (Linux of course)

I'm sorry, my english is not very good to explain my problem :(

And then the .rrd files and graphs re-appear by themselves? :-?

No, I've never heard of that before.

You, in other words, want to create graphs for all interfaces that are up, is that correct. And then in addition to that do it periodically to pick up anything new, or are you wishing to hide graphs that are not Administratively up.

The first is quite strait forward to do, the second, is a little more out of scope per se, but could be handled in a plugin.

Hi :)

TheWitness, it's not exactely that.
On my switch, i have many interfaces, someones are administratively up, others are down.
I don't want to graph all the administratively up, but only one or two interfaces: the uplink interfaces (if1/25 and if1/26 on a 24 interfaces switch); because graph the interface which is connected a desktop computer don't interest me.

Actually, I can create graphs for interfaces I want, but all the others interfaces are automatically graphed few minuts later :S

But, I don't understant your expression: "out of scope per se" ("per se" exactely)

Cacti is really excellent, but not always easy to configure

An idea for my problem?
