my Linux always looks at the wrong paht for the mysql.sock
I tried to find the configuration file where I can change that, but could find it.
Anyone nows where I can change that?

The file "my.cnf" should be in /etc. If it's not there you can try to find it "find / -name my.cnf".
You can specify mysql.sock path in "socket" entry in "mysqld section".
