Other Data to monitor ?

Post by Mr_Miagi »

Hi there, i´m very new in cacti. could you tell me, if it´s possible using cacti to monitor other data which are stored in a MYSQL-Database?

for sample:
(MYSQL) SELECT name, login-time FROM table;
-> and cacti will create a graph, which shows all the selected data.

i don´t want to monitor network trafic. The goal is, to provide a graph with data from MYSQL.

Many thanks in advance

This is possible. You have to write a wrapper script. Use any scripting/programming language you like. The script should simply spit out the results in some standardized way. See e.g. first link of my signature for complete walkthroughs.

Hi People

I have the same problem. But I couldn't see a link in your signature eheheheh. Could you gandalf send the link in this topic?

EDIT: now I can see your signature eheheh, forget about the links

But anyway let me explain what I have to do:

I have (like Mr Miagi) data stored on a MySQL database. the script who would take this data is done. the problem is: Each hour I have 12 news registers in this database with its own timestamp. And Cacti should not update the rrd file using N: , but the timestamp stored on MySQL DB. I know how to do that using rrdtool/scripts, but my boss uses Cacti and he would like to continue using. So I thought in doing the same thing (with scripts + rrd), but configurating the stuff on cacti and setting to Cacti does not update the rrd file. Do you guys think there is another solution for that?

You've hit an issue. Currently, there's no way to provide cacti with the timestamp it should use. This would be a nice feature (I've found some need for it as well), but a very dangerous one. Currently, it's simply not there

eheheh I thought to.

Well, I'm going to do without CACTI and when I'm done, I will post informations here. Perhaps it could help on the implementation of this feature.

Thanks gandalf.

You may want to update the rrd externally but graph it using cacti. Doable for a few graphs, not for many. Help is provided in my howto
