Create RRD Datasources for Netapps

Post by chrisbb61 »

I am not a newbie to UNIX or netapps but am to SNMP, RRDTool and Cacti. I am embarrassed to ask this question as it would seem easy to figure out but I cannot. I am running out of time on a project. I am sure I am missing something very obvious. So here I am at your mercy. Please be kind :-)

RedHat ES 5.1
cacti-0.8.7a
RRDtool 1.2.26
php-snmp-5.1.6-15
net-snmp-utils-5.3.1-19
net-snmp-devel-5.3.1-19
net-snmp-perl-5.3.1-14
net-snmp-5.3.1-19.
Perl v5.10.0
PHP 5.1.6
mysql-server-5.0.22-2.2
mysql-5.0.22-2.2
mysql-devel-5.0.22-2.2
Netapp FAS3050
OnTap 7.2.1

Somewhere I am completely missing a big step. I found some great looking links here such as:
http://forums.cacti.net/about11446.html. Don't I need to create the datasources in MySQL: before I can apply these templates?

I am interested in volume, aggregate, and CPU utilization primarily reports and graphs.. I found the notify plug-in so I could include a monitoring fuction in Cacti as well as reporting.

Does anybody just have some nice scripts that I can use to create rrdtool datasources for my netapps?

I need to be able to just create some basic graphing current and historical and perhaps some alerting also.

Not sure why I am having such a hard time with this.
