Monitoring Specific Network Traffic

Post by russell.seymour »

Afternoon everyone,

I need to be able to monitor specific traffic between machines. Such an example would be the traffic between Apache and JBoss on tcp port 8009.

The reason I want to do this is so that I can create a WeatherMap that shows the machines and the traffic flowing between the different layers.

I cannot think of a way of doing this simply, and before I start embarking on writing something myself I wondered if anyone is doing something similar.

Thanks in advance for any assitance,

Russell

This requires ipfilter, netflow, sflow or similar. Not doable by pure SNMP. Examples are available on this forum (but I did not try a single one)
