[SOLVED] Trouble Recreating Traffic Graphs..
So, I've had cacti setup for about 6 months now. GREAT tool THANKS TO all that have kept it going and maintain it..
The issue I'm currently having is that of being able to graph traffic on a windows machine with SNMP enabled. This box has 4 gig NIC's. One, was recently installed. So I wanted to graph the traffic on the new NIC, so I added a new graph and etc.. I noticed a day or 2 later that nothing on that new NIC was being graphed, so I deleted all traffic graphs from Graph Management including in/out bytes total bandwidth, and in/out bytews 64bit counters.
Now I'm trying to recreate all the traffic graphs, but within the new graph section it will only allow me to create a graph for everything BUT the 64bit and the in/out total BW.
I've tried to reload the query, rebuild cache etc... I'm out of ideas. If you need more info, please ask! thanks!
Server info:
Suse 10 enterprise
2.6.16.21-0.8-smp

My server is suse 10 enterprise, the box I'm trying to get results from is windows. I hope that clears things up.
I've been able to create 64bit counters and total BW in the past.... But I can't seem to create any graphs I've created in the past. I can't even recreate an in/out bytes - total bandwidth..
Thanks

This is soo frustrating. Anyone have any ideas?
I can create a graph for ANY of the other graph types EXCEPT the in/out bytes (64bit counters) and in/out bytes total bandwidth. The two graphs I had created previously.
There is NO traffic graphs under the device in graph management.
I have deleted all the data graphs for the specific device from cacti, and still not able to create a NEW graph for my interfaces.
I have attached an image that shows on the top that I have the ability to create a in/out bits graph. But if I goto in/out bytes with total bandwidth I dont get a choice. Same with in/out 64bit counters.

gandalf is correct, Windows doesn't natively support 64bit counters.
If you're unable to create graphs with the 64bit counters for ANY device, then something is broken with your cacti installation.

Okay, so then why em I not able to create a total bandwidth graph then? I had the graphs once, deleted them, now trying to add again and I can't. The 64bit counters on windows is explained, but not this.BSOD2600 wrote:gandalf is correct, Windows doesn't natively support 64bit counters.

I didn't want to loose the data, but In the end I was tired of waiting, so I deleted the device, re added and now I'm able to create 64bit counter and total bandwidth graphs just how I did before.
Looks like a possible bug to me.
Side note,
Every once in awhile I get the following error when trying to post a message:

All collected data from polling is stored in the *.rrd files. Your data is still there.kernelphr34k wrote:I didn't want to loose the data, but In the end I was tired of waiting, so I deleted the device, re added and now I'm able to create 64bit counter and total bandwidth graphs just how I did before.
If you can reproduce it or create a patch, http://www.cacti.net/bugs.phpkernelphr34k wrote:Looks like a possible bug to me.
Do you take several minutes to post? That could be a reason. Otherwise, let rony know about it.kernelphr34k wrote: Side note,

Cacti will create new rrd files and thus graphs.pesto wrote:if I delete the device, recreate it, will the graphs auto populate?
There are better ways to handle a name change instead of deleting the device. IMO, should've just changed he name in cacti and thats it. If you want the new name on the graphs, then you should've used the 'reapply suggested names' feature in graph management.pesto wrote:The problem is my device name changed and I'd like to see the old graphs.
Yes. In the documentation site, read on how to use externally updated rrd files.pesto wrote:Is there a way to just create a graph from a data source without linking it to a device?

Found that and have been digging through it...getting weird unexpected results, cacti's always 'just worked' for me so now I'm having to get more familiar with it. Wish me luckBSOD2600 wrote:Cacti will create new rrd files and thus graphs.pesto wrote:if I delete the device, recreate it, will the graphs auto populate?

I've figured it out but I have one problem:
How do I know which rrds went to which graphs? I can recover the rrds to make graphs, the graphs look good, however, it's dealing with four interfaces of the same machine so it's hard to tell which is which. The only way I can seem to find to do it is to click on the graph and see which rrd it is using, but that's not an option here because the graphs are deleted. Any suggestions appreciated.

The only way would to be restoring your cacti db to a temp db, then looking in the tables for which rrd file went with each cached interface index.
