[SOLVED] Cacti is Down

Hello,

Our Cacti box has been running for a few months without issue. This morning, we are unable to login. We have the following error:

Error

You have created a new database, but have not yet imported the 'cacti.sql' file. At the command line, execute the following to continue:

mysql -u cactiuser -p cacti < cacti.sql

This error may also be generated if the cacti database user does not have correct permissions on the cacti database. Please ensure that the cacti database user has the ability to SELECT, INSERT, DELETE, UPDATE, CREATE, ALTER, DROP, INDEX on the cacti database.

I tried that command, but we had no success. Any advice? Thank you!

I tried to edit my.cnf, but I got an error upon entering vi "Error, recovery impossible".

do you have backups (using mysqlhotcopy / mysqldump) of the Cacti database ?

No, but I was able to recover by reverting to the snapshot image. I try to take periodic snapshots using VMware, so I guess I got lucky. Could you point me in the right direction regarding how to backup the cacti box (Gui + SQL DB)? Thank you.
