do I need indexed values?

Post by Bonkie »

Hello,

Im still very new to rrd/cacti and a lot of things are still confusing to me. But it seems to me that a lot of polling data is based on values that can be polled independent of time.

But I want to parse a log file to count lines, but since I use logrotate I cannot simply do wc -l. Im looking for something that can parse lines, after a given timestamp, ie the last time the poller-script was run.

As I have no idea what indexed values really are, I want to know if this is a use for them,or is this something that has to be handled by the poller-script internally ??
