RRA's not being created

Post by ghideon »

This is an Ubuntu server install, running cactid and cacti compiled from source, version 0.8.6j. Cacti had the Plugin patch and the 1min polling interval patch applied.

I can get cactid to run and fetch data via the command line, and I can see the data sitting in the DB by doing a a select * on poller_output. I see output in the log.

I do not see the RRAs being created tho, either when run from the command line or via crontab. With the logging all the way up, I do not see anything in the cacti log. I do see data of course, when I run cactid manually.

1) Should I see RRAs being created via a CLI cactid run?

2) Are the 1minute polling interval patch (or the plugin patch) known to cause issues like this?

3) What else can I do to try and figure out where in the RRA creation process it's breaking? Perms on the rra directory are cactiuser.root, same as the log directory.

Any hints?

You must run poller.php, which forks cactid, to update RRD files. Ohterwise, maybe a permissions probem.

I should have been more clear. Running poller.php, either manually as cactiuser or via cron as cactiuser, doesn't result in anything. I don't get anything in the log file. So I guess that's my real problem. My rra directory is at /var/www/cacti/rra. It should/would error if it couldn't find it, or had the wrong perms, correct?

Thanks

Have you set logging to DEBUG? Have you run poller.php manually as both root and cactiuser?

Indeed. Set it to debug, turned all the checkboxes on.

Running poller.php both as cactiuser and root doesn't do anything. No change to the empty log file, no creation of a logfile if it's not there.

This has got to be some weird Ubuntu thing.

Is the RRDTool Default Font Path required?

Only for viewing the graphs. Not for generating the RRD file.
