Okay i am totally new in this..
I am making for my server @ home some scripts. Because of my lack of speed i want to monitor the speed with a speedtest from my ISP.
So it should be a simple
wget <adres> command and voila...
But it is a 10MB file so it takes around 20s till 1min..
Also i have no idea to get a speed from the wget and put into cacti using a template or somewhat...
So i think i need a little bit big help
Request for help for a speedtest script + template

I am looking for the same thing. I have most of it built but there seem to be one or more steps missing in the documentation that links the data gathering to the graphing and presentation.
I have this from Speedtest.net via a command line tool:
Nuggets like this
I have successfully created templates before but not with these docs.

are very annoying, as they don't explain how you might not have the desired result or how to fix it. The screenshot on that page leaves out the bottom of the form which is where I think I missed something.Assuming you selected a data input source on the previous screen, you should now be presented with a Custom Data box. It will show a single line for every single parameter required for that very data input method. This is how the Data Source glues together with the data input method to provide all run time parameters. — http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... _TEMPLATES

Re: Request for help for a speedtest script + template
This is also unhelpful:
I'm giving up on this. What should have a fairly quick job has turned into many hours of wasted time. Maybe someone else has already made this…but if they did, they didn't follow any of the existing documentation.
What should happen:
• create a data source
• create a data template for it
• make a graph template to display it
• connect the data source, data template, and graph template
• assign to some host/device for data collection
• done
Where is the Data Template Selection box? I realize this is free software, all made by people donating their time, but is it too much to ask that if a function or procedure changes, that the documentation reflects those changes? Ideally, the code and the docs are connected. You don't change one without the other. If there is a some new way to connect data sources/data templates/graph templates, it would be worth sharing.Applying a data template to a data source is a very simple process. The first thing you must do is select the data source you want to apply the template to under Data Sources. Under the Data Template Selection box, select the data template that you want to apply to the data source and click Save.

As with most lists in Cacti, you "Select" it by clicking on the name (the part that is highlighted on your SS), the next page then has a section cleared marked "Data Template Selection"Applying a data template to a data source is a very simple process. The first thing you must do is select the data source you want to apply the template to under Data Sources. Under the Data Template Selection box, select the data template that you want to apply to the data source and click Save.
