SNMP Device Status -UNKNOWN

Post by forumuser »

Hi,

I have installed cacti 0.8.6j) from the 'windows Installer' and has been working fine with no additions/patches/tweaks done. (windows 2003)
When trying to add a new device to Cacti, it is able to pull the SNMP information of the device, but the status is 'Unknown' So not giving any graphs for the selected interface. Any suggestions..?

Status: unknown
Current :0ms
Average : 0ms
Availability: 100%

Thank you in advance.

sounds like its never been polled. Look in the log file, does cacti consider the device up or down?

Have you set up cacti to poll anything on this device? Look in data sources for this device.

Yes.. Cacti Settings (Poller)

General Enabled

If you wish to stop the polling process, uncheck this box. Enabled
Poller Type

The poller type to use. ----> cmd.php

Also, inthe 'Data Sources:
ACTIVE.

Re: SNMP Device Status -UNKNOWN

Hi, I am new to cacti and after a few hours of reading and tweaking I have it up and running. I am having the same problem as the user below.

I have four devices on my Cacti.
Two identical - Cisco 2621 Routers
One router reads perfect
The other router does the snmp walk and lists off all the interfaces, but does not ever seem to poll. I am not seeing any errors. The Device page shows a status of unknown and a avaliblity of 100%

One Cisco 2924 Switch - Works fine in all aspects in cacti.
One Dell 3348 Switch - The snmp walk works and lists all the interfaces.

Also I did check the Poller settings and Data Sources.

This is running on Windows 2003 Server.
I installed using the latest Windows MSI installer.
cacti-0.8.6j.1.5.exe

Under data sources, are there any listed for those Madison devices?

Look in the cacti log when it tries to talk to the Madison devices, does it say up down, no response, etc?

-->Scheduled Task for Cacti Run with no issues :Every 5Min.
(Also I have 20 of other devices showing 'UP' in cacti with no issues)

--> No data Sources listed for this device.

Thank you

Thats why its status is unknown -- no data to collect.

That is the whole issue. How to make it work..? I have NO issues with other devices and a router Directly connected to this switch.

SNMP is detecting the device.

Thanks

Add some data sources for the device... use the 'create graphs for this device' screen.

Hi BSOD,
Thanks for the reply . But I have done that before and eveno 'NOW' with no success . No graph .. only red cross mark. One thing I observed for this device...

1. When I add this device, the page that pops up (with device SNMP info) was always 'blank'. I go to 'DEVICES' and click on the device , then it shows the SNMP info of the device.

2. Also, the i/f I added for monitoring has 'IPaddress' but cacti doesnot show the IP /descrpiption when click on 'Create Graph for this device'.

Please advise.
Thanks

What device are you having all these problems with?
Does cacti successfully poll / display other device types just fine?

As for red X's on graphs, read http://docs.cacti.net/node/283

Hi,

The device is 6509 with Sup 720. Other devices are good with NO issues. Below are my observattions when tried with other Cisco6509 in the network.
Devices with IOS: s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF8.bin are NO GOOD. Status 'Unknown'.

There are no 'rrd' file created for these devices.

Any otehr IOS (ex: s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF5.bin) are GOOD. No issues.

Also, the above (s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF8.bin) version is fine when I tried same (utilization graph) with SOLARWINDS.

So something to do with CACTI. Any suggestions..? like patches..??

Thanks
