Cacti data collection scripts / Nagios integration

Post by bsd04 »

Hi

Problem: I need to hand over Cacti data collection script stderr to Nagios, so that in case the Cacti collection script fails, the failure reason can be seen in Nagios. How are you all solving this? I have something which works at the moment, but the way it works is not nice.

Thanks

I honestly don't see an easy way to do this. What are you currently doing?

Collecting some data via custom Cacti scripts and Nagios is generating alarms by tracking values in specific RRD files. If you meant what I'm doing to hand over the messages, then currently Cacti data collection script writes stderr to specific file (one file per host/service pair) and Nagios picks up the last line. Works to some length but is not scalable neither manageable.

Did you already consider using the THOLD plugin for cacti?
