Poller fails to poll Data Template

I have a data template created that runs a perl script. It returns 55 values. When I create a data source using this template and then the associated graphs the poller will never run that script. However, if I create a data source exactly the same way not using a template it gets polled immediately. Is there something I am just missing? I have attached the data template.
