New Device shown as Down, but it isn't.

I've added a new device by providing a name and an IP address in the Hostname area. All I need to do is graph RTT from the "Ping a Host" template that I've already created.

When I add the new device, though, Cacti displays it as Down. I can successfully ping the device's address from both the internet and directly from the machine hosting Cacti.

What should I look for?

If there's no need for SNMP Templates, leave the community string empty and wait for about 20-25 minutes
