Feature Request (or bug?): Update existing nodes/links

Post by iYRe »

Hi,

I've noticed that when I make a global change to my map, for example, changing the default font or arrow size etc, it only applies to new items I add, and the old ones are not updated.

Also, in the editor, the ability to filter by host would be nice when selecting a map for a link.

Thanks though, I am enjoying creating maps and showing people what we can do with this.

Indeed. It's not exactly a bug, but more a side-effect of the way the editor works. I did put in a special case for width in 0.9 so that now changes the way you expect. I still want to rewrite the editor completely, so I'm trying not to spend too much time on it at the moment.

Agreed. I'd like that too :-) If you use firefox, then hitting / helps a little, to search down the list, but a host filter would be handy.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Hmm..

It doesnt appear to change for me. I changed the font and arrows for my links by default, and none of them changed. However when I added a new link it had the new properties.

I pretty much just use the editor to arrange the nodes and links in the places I want, then refine it at do everything else in the actual config file.
When you do update the editor, perhaps another good tool would be a grid. So we can see what pixel is where.

Anyway, thanks, I really like this. I have some interesting stuff to try and show in it, so I will let you know when I have done it.

That's the expected behaviour currently. Not expected by you obviously, but that is the way it works. I agree that it's not intuitive, and I'll change this for the next release.

Yep. Some variation on a pixel coordinate display, and snap-to-grid are in the pipeline. The long-term plan is a much nicer AJAX-based editor, where you can drag the nodes around, but I think there will be some quick fixes for the current editor before that.

Cool - always nice to see what people do with it :-)

This change is done, and will be in the next release, along with a few more editor tweaks.

Excellent Man. Thanks, I look forward to it.

I am about to build a new graphing server, which will use both cacti and cricket + weathermap to provide for all our needs (with a view to getting rid of cricket).
