How to setup netscreen?

Post by toddyp »

I already setup cacti, and its running well. But it seems could not recognise my Netscreen firewall. I enabled SNMP for pretty much default settings (public community and port 161) in the firewall.
Then added this as new device in cacti with IP address and 'Generic SNMP-enabled host'. Set the SNMP community as 'public', Version -> 'Version 1', SNMP Port -> '161', SNMP Timeout -> '500'.

Now, I can see the SNMP information on top of this device setup page (no SNMP error). But why the status in 'Device' page is 'Down'?

How to correctly set this device?

What's you cacti version? Please change "Settings -> Downed Hos Detection " to SNMP only. Wait for at least 3-4 polling cycles and then check host status again

ups, i guess i didn't give enough info, as i am new to this thing. I am using cacti-0.8.6h.

I am trying that now, and as you said, i'll return with the result after 5 polling.

Hi

by default Cacti uses UDP ping; if you want to use ICMP ping, the poller has to be run by 'root'.
