Spaces in interface descriptions/names

Post by boomboxnation »

Help. Force 10 networks E series switches return interface descriptions containing a space, like so:

Code: Select all

IF-MIB::ifDescr.75546686 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/31
IF-MIB::ifDescr.75808830 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/32
IF-MIB::ifDescr.76070974 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/33
IF-MIB::ifDescr.76333118 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/34
IF-MIB::ifDescr.76595262 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/35
IF-MIB::ifDescr.76857406 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/36
IF-MIB::ifDescr.77119550 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/37
I THINK that cacti in turn clips off anything after the space so all my graphs look like the attachment. I can't tell what is what.

Console -> Settings -> Visual -> Data Sources -> Maximum Title Length

Change it to something larger than 80.

did that...

Yeah, I had already changed it up to 200, still no port info. My non-thumbnail graphs are 600 pixels wide as well, it's not getting clipped there.

We're experiencing this exact same issue. Have you had any luck in finding/developing a fix for this presentation problem?

Nope

No. No movement. I started looking around for the piece of responsible code, but backed out rather quickly.

Hmmmm...

Maybe I was looking in the wrong place. This could easily be fixed with a small bit of RegEx in whatever gets the desc/names in the Verbose Query.

Did you ever try to "Reapply Suggested Names" from Graph Management for those Graphs?

Nope

'Reapply Suggested Names' did not help.

I'm a dumb ass.
See "Settings -> Visual -> Maximum Field Length" and change to sth > 15. Perhaps "Reapply ..." stuff is needed as well.
