HTTP string response check?

Post by cgw323 »

Are there any plugins out there that will make a HTTP request and graph based on the response?

For instance:
Cacti calls a URL which returns the string "GOOD" if everything checks out and returns "FAIL: " plus a brief message if something is amiss.

I've searched the forums without much luck.

Thanks,

I did this with MRTG years ago, there may be a better way, but at least it is a start

Cisco SAA (search the forums) can do HTTP response times and response codes in IOS 12.3 and better. There are cacti templates to use this data. You can also use it for latency and availability monitoring.

A capable Cisco box (e.g. 2611) can be had from Ebay for around $100 if you don't have such a beast already. It doesn't check the content for specific words or phrases though, only HTTP response code, and content length (maybe that would work? The error message is longer than "OK")
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)
